Abstract:

This paper reconstructs Einstein’s reasoning leading to the iconic equation E = mc^2, and extends the analysis to demonstrate that there is no unique solution for the mechanics of photons reflecting from moving mirrors that satisfies observations in all inertial frames. This contradicts the principle of relativity, thereby challenging the special theory of relativity.
